Abergele Home Benefits from ECO4 Energy Makeover

Abergele Home Benefits from ECO4 Energy Makeover

Introduction

North Wales Retrofit recently completed a project in Conwy, transforming an end-of-terrace home with a low EPC rating of F into a highly efficient property. The home, which was difficult to heat and relied on bottled LPG gas, was fully assessed and upgraded through the ECO4 scheme. Our approach, centred on respect, safety, and integrity, aimed to significantly reduce the occupant’s energy costs and improve comfort.

Assessment

Following the initial enquiry, our team conducted a thorough review of the property’s condition. The assessment revealed that the inefficient heating system and poor insulation were the primary contributors to the high energy bills. The home was also running on a boiler that used bottled LPG gas, which was not only inefficient but also inconvenient.

A detailed retrofit assessment was carried out to analyse the property’s potential for energy-saving improvements. The findings led to a comprehensive plan that included upgrades such as an air source heat pump, smart heating controls, loft insulation, solar panels (2.5kW), internal wall insulation, and radiator upgrades. This thorough model served as the foundation for the project’s design and execution.

Funding

The entire retrofit project was funded under the UK Government’s ECO4 scheme, which supports energy-efficient improvements for low-income households. This allowed the resident to receive significant upgrades without any financial contribution, providing a stress-free path to better living conditions. North Wales Retrofit’s team assisted with the grant application, ensuring the process was as smooth as possible.

Installation

Once the report was reviewed and signed off, installation was scheduled with our approved energy installers carrying out the upgrades. The installation was carefully managed by North Wales Retrofit, with daily check-ups to ensure progress and resolve any issues. During the installation period, the resident had the option of temporary accommodation to avoid disruption.

The retrofit was completed efficiently, with all measures implemented to high standards. A week after the installation, a customer satisfaction survey was conducted, confirming that the resident was satisfied with the results.

Outcome

The retrofit dramatically improved the home’s energy performance, raising the EPC rating from Low F to High B. The installation of modern heating solutions and insulation led to an estimated saving of £2,230 per year on energy bills while also reducing the home’s carbon footprint. The resident now enjoys a warm and energy-efficient home, free from the hassle of bottled gas, and significantly reduced energy costs.

This successful project not only improved the home’s energy efficiency but also greatly enhanced the resident’s quality of life, fulfilling our mission of supporting vulnerable households across North Wales.
